Indianapolis, Ind. — Senator-elect Travis Holdman (R-Markle) will officially become the newest member of the Indiana Senate on Friday, April 11. His swearing-in ceremony, conducted by Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall Shepard, will be at 11:30 a.m. in the Senate Chamber of the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
Holdman on Saturday (March 29) was selected by precinct committee members of Senate District 19 to complete the four-year term of the late Sen. David C. Ford. Ford passed away March 5 after battling pancreatic cancer.
“Travis Holdman’s unique background will make him very valuable to the people of Northeast Indiana and our entire senate,” said Senate President Pro Tem David C. Long (R-Fort Wayne). “He is known for his hard work, his intellect, his passion for his community and its causes. I’m sure Travis will use his broad experience to improve the lives of his neighbors and friends throughout Adams, Allen, Blackford, Grant and Wells counties.”
A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, Holdman earned a master’s degree from St. Francis University in Fort Wayne and a law degree from the Indiana University School of Law.
Holdman worked in Wells County government for 18 years: five as a deputy prosecutor, 11 years as administrator of child protective services and two years as a caseworker.
Perhaps best known for his many years as president and CEO of MarkleBank (cq), Holdman now practices estate-planning law, consults with community banks on strategic and succession planning and serves on the Wells County Council.
Active in local, state and federal politics, Holdman has served as Wells County Republican chair and vice chair.
Through his lifetime of service, Holdman gained the respect of banking, legal, agricultural, small business, educational and community leaders. Gov. Mitch Daniels tapped Holdman to serve on the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions Board for both 2005 and 2006.
Currently, Holdman serves on the board of trustees for Huntington University, where he also chairs the foundation board. He is an active member of the Indiana and Wells County Bar Association and serves on the administrative council at the Zanesville United Methodist Church. He is a member of the national board of Youth for Christ/USA.
Holdman and his wife Becky of 34 years have two adult children: LeAnne Holdman Gibbs, legislative director for Congressman Mike Pence in Washington, D.C.; and 2nd Lt. Wesley Holdman, a commissioned officer at Laughlin Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
